Thousands attend Tibet self-immolator’s funeral

Tibetan Review: Thousands of Tibetans were reported to have attended the funeral service for one of the two Tibetan youths who staged a self-immolation protest against Chinese rule in Sangchu County of Kanlho (Chinese: Gannan) Prefecture, Gansu Province, on Oct 26. The paramilitary people’s armed police, though present, could not reach the scene because of the size and density of the crowd.

The last rites for 21-year-old Tsepag Kyab (also mentioned as Thubwang Kyab, 23) were carried out on Oct 31 at Sangkhog, the town in which he carried out his fiery self-sacrifice protest and died at around 8:00 pm on Oct 26.

The funeral service became possible because Tibetans succeeded in preventing the Chinese police from taking away his body after the self-immolation. There are no reports yet of any protest or arrest from the funeral service.

The cremation service of 24-year-old farmer Lhamo Tsetan, who had also immolated himself on Oct 26, in the afternoon, was said to have been carried out on Oct 30, with no reports of further details.
