Stamp to mark 50 years of Indo-Tibetan Border Police

Hindustan Times: A commemorative postage stamp to mark the 50th year of raising of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was released on Monday by the union minister of state for IT and communication Sachin Pilot.

ITBP, a border guarding force along the Sino-Indian border, was raised in October, 1962
in the wake of Chinese aggression. The force guards the 3,488-km-long Sino-Indian frontier, besides rendering a host of internal security duties including anti-Maoist operations, apart from taking part in many United Nations peacekeeping missions.

The Rs. 5 denomination postage stamp, designed by the department of posts, depicts three armed ITBP commandos donning their camouflage white and gray fatigues with the icy Himalayan peaks in the background. ITBP personnel are deployed at altitudes up to 17,600 feet, where temperature drops down to below minus 40 degree Celsius.

"The department of posts is proud and happy to release this stamp which signifies the glory and dedication of this central police force in defending the country," Pilot said during the ceremony.

Director General, ITBP, Ranjit Sinha said as part of the golden jubilee celebrations, ITBP is also organizing a half marathon on October 7, apart from hoisting of national and force flags atop Mount
Everest and a river rafting expedition from Gomukh to Gangasagar.
